William was the brother of Sapper James Proctor, 138667, 3rd Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops & Pte John Valentine Proctor, 404563, 24th Battalion Canadian Infantry.
William was in action with the Royal Dragoons from the outbreak of hostilities. He was slighty wounded and taken prisoner 09.10.1914 at Ypres. According to his POW records he was held at two German POW camps as Aachen and Hameln, before his release at the end of the war.
