Private William Latto of the Cameron Highlanders has died from wounds sustained in action, official notification to this effect having been received by his mother, Mrs Wilson, Sawmill Cottage Fothringham. Writing to the mother of the deceased, his company officer states that Private Latto was a good soldier, always cherry and ever ready to do his bit.
Latto was 27 years of age, and was in Canada when war broke out. He trained in the Canadian army for several months, but was discharged for medical reasons. Returning home, he was employed in Dundee for a short time. He enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders in the beginning of last year and had been in the fighting line for about twelve months.
