William Gibson 23798 King’s Own Scottish Borderers
DUNDEE SOLDIER KILLED.
The sad intelligence has been received by Mr and Mrs John Gibson, 49 Forfar Road, that their son, Private William Gibson, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, was killed in action on November 5.
A letter from a chaplain states that Private Gibson was on sentry duty, when a shell hit the parapet in front of him, burying him completely. He never regained consciousness, and was buried in a military cemetery.
Private Gibson, who was only 18 years of age, enlisted in June last, and had been at the front only a short time. Previous to enlistment he was employed in the office of Mr George Peattie, jute merchant, Meadowside. Mr Gibson who is a retired headmaster and a member of the School Board, has two other sons serving with the colours, one of whom has been wounded.
