For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour, but is remembered on the Dundee High School Roll of Honour. S.D.G.W. records this mans regiment as 5th Battalion, Black Watch.
William David MacBeth Black Watch
DUNDEE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER KILLED.
Mr J. H. MacBeth, Duncraig, Wormit, received official information yesterday that his brother, Second-Lieutenant W. MacBeth Black Watch, had been killed in action on 23rd April.
The letter received by Mr MacBeth from Lieutenant-Colonel Booth states that Lieut. MacBeth fell bravely leading his men after the capture of the German first line and during the advance to the second line. He was a splendid and reliable officer, and one the army could ill afford lose.
Lieut. MacBeth graduated at Aberdeen University, and came to Dundee in 1904. After serving under the School Board in Blackness Public School he was appointed to the English department of Dundee High School, a position he held until the outbreak of the war. Early in 1915 he was gazetted to the Black Watch, and went to France in July, 1915.
Lieut. MacBeth resided with his brother at Duncraig, Wormit, and was a popular man.
