For reasons unknown William is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
William Butchart 19913 Royal Scots Fusiliers
FORFARIAN KILLED IN ACTION.
Private William Butchart, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, son of Alexander Butchart, 94 Dundee Road, Forfar, was killed in action on Sunday last, the sad news of his death being communicated from the front by another Forfarian serving in the same regiment.
Butchart was 21 years of age, and prior to enlisting was employed as a tenter in Manor Works. He answered his country’s call in August of last year, and had been in the fighting line for four months. An elder brother is serving in France with the Scots Guards.
