DUNDEE FAMILY’S FINE RECORD.
Sergeant W. Wilson, whose parents reside at 107 Clepington Road, Dundee, has been awarded the D.C.M. for bravery on the field. Sergeant Wilson, who was a reservist in the R.A.M.C., was called up at the beginning of hostilities. A shell blew in the brigade headquarters, and Wilson, being on duty at the dressing station, was asked to send eight men over a shell-swept field to carry to safety the wounded officers. He sent of the bearers and followed himself. Five of his men were knocked out or killed, and they could only find one wounded officer. He took a hand with the three men and brought the officer to safety. His brother, Sergeant Andrew Wilson, R.A.M.C., won the Military Medal in November, 1916.
Previous to enlistment, Sergeant Wilson was a chemist’s assistant with the firm of James Hardie & Sons, Dundee.
Dundee Courier 1st December 1917
William was the brother of Staff Sgt, Andrew Wilson, M.M. 89247, 53rd General Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps.
