More about Thomas Rattray Manzie

Thomas R Manzie was born in Dundee and was the son of Mr Edward and Mrs Margaret Manzie who later lived in Tayport, Fife. He was the husband of Mrs Mary King Manzie and they lived at 1 Cannon Street, Leith. He volunteered to join the Royal Naval Reserve at Leith in April 1915 and was immediately drafted to the Hired Trawler New Comet based at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. The New Comet struck a mine laid by the German submarine UC-4 and sank in the North Sea off Orfordness, Suffolk with the loss of eight of her crew. Thomas Manzie is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial at Southsea Common, Portsmouth in Hampshire.
