Thomas had 3 brothers, Alexander, William and Joseph. Joseph wars the youngest sibling and too young to serve. Alexander enlisted Sep 1914 and served with the 1st Batt, Scots Guards in France and Flanders. He was killed in action 11 Oct 1918 and is interred in the St. Hilaire Les Cambrai British Cemetery. William enlisted in Dec 1915 and served with the 3rd Batt, Scots Guards before transferring to the Guards Machine Gun Company. He also served on the Western Front until March 1919 when he was finally demobilised.
