Thomas was originally reported to have been killed in action in 1914 and is remembered on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. He was in fact taken as a prisoner of war and returned home safely. He was the brother of Pte Laurence Hyland, 9995, 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, who died, 06.04.1915.
