Private Thomas Carroll, a bomb-thrower, is another of “Dundee’s Own” who was wounded on the memorable 9th inst. He was crawling up to a German trench to throw some of his deadly bombs when he was shot in the arm with a dum-dum bullet. Blood poisoning set in, and the wounded private underwent an operation.
