Morris McLeod was the son of Mr Peter and Mrs Mary McLeod of 13 Arklay Street, Dundee and was the widower of Mrs Agnes McLeod (nee Alexander). Castle Eden SS was built in 1914 by the Irvine Shipbuilding Company of West Hartlepool, she grossed 1,919 tons, and measured 86,25×12,21×5,61 metres., powered by a 175 hp triple expansion steam engine.

His ship was sunk by the German submarine U-110 off the North Coast of Ireland. Carrying a cargo of 1,929 tons welsh steam coal for the Royal Navy and a general cargo from the Clyde to Loch Swilly. His age was recorded as 31 in Deaths at Sea. Morris McLeod was the only fatality in the sinking and his name is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London. The Peoples Journal of 27 July 1918 has an In Memoriam entry.
