LOCHEE SAILOR’S DEATH.
A.B. E. J. Keane, who belonged to Lochee, has died of dysentery at Alexandria. He was 27 years of age, and was a member of the crew of a submarine.

Ernest J Keane joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in March 1907 and served in surface ships until 1910 when he transferred to the submarine service. He was the son of Mr Richard and Mrs Elizabeth Keane of 37 Dufferin Avenue, Bangor, County Down. He died of enteric fever and is buried in the Alexandria Military Cemetery, Egypt. His name is on the Lochee Library Roll and another Dundee connection would be time spent in pre war Submarine Depot Ships in Dundee. Only one Ernest Keane served in the Royal Navy between 1860 and 1920.
