For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. He is believed to be the brother of CSM Peter Watson, 492, 1/7th Battalion Black Watch, who was killed in action 24.10.1918.
DUNDEE BLACK WATCH SOLDIER IS KILLED,
WHILE BROTHER IS WOUNDED.
Private Joseph Watson, of the 2nd Black Watch, who belonged to Dundee, was killed at La Bassee in the beginning of March. His brother, Sergeant Peter Watson of the 1st Black Watch, is at present recuperating at Blair Atholl from a shot through the right lung. Intimation of Joseph’s death was received by his sister, who resides at 34 Lawson Place, Dundee. Deceased, who was 28 years of age , had served six years with the 2nd Black Watch in India, but re-enlisted at the beginning of the war, and went to France about the middle of November.

Peter Watson 492 1/7th Black Watch
Company-Sergeant Major Peter Watson, 1/7th Black Watch, whose wife resides at 14 Cotton Road, was killed in action in France on 24th October, while his brother, Private Joseph Watson, Black Watch, made the supreme sacrifice at La Bassee in March, 1915. Company-Sergeant Major Watson, who was a reservist, was called up at the out break of war, and proceeded to France almost immediately. In November, 1914, he was shot through the right lung at Ypres, and after recuperating he was again sent to France. Subsequently he was drafted to Salonika, where he served for about three years, and while there he sustained a wound in the hand. Deceased was 30 years of age.
