For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
Private John Wilson, 303385 (6379). He was the son of David and Isabella Wilson of James Nisbet Street, Townhead, Glasgow. John had two brothers, David & Alex and three sisters, Jemima, Nellie & Isabella. John enlisted in Glasgow on 30th November 1915 he was mobilized in May 1916 joining the 2/7th Argyll’s with a service number 5272 then posted to the 1/8th on 21st January 1917. John fell foul of military discipline shortly before he died being ‘awarded’ 14 day’s Field Punishment No1 on 1st March for ‘losing by neglect a scabbard and being absent from parade’. He is buried in Roclincourt Valley Cemetery and commemorated in the Glasgow Roll of Honour. Although a native of Dundee, John’s name was omitted from that city’s roll of honour.
