LOCHEE MAN WINS D.C.M.
Corporal John S. Sievwright, who has been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, is a son of Mr and Mrs Sievwright, 8 Gray’s Lane, Lochee.
He has seen much fighting in German East Africa. He took part in the big battle of Latema Nek, and it was there that he distinguished himself. He went out, under heavy fire, to succour the wounded and bring them to safety.
Corporal Sievwright, who was for some time a member of the “Courier” staff in Lindsay Street, left Dundee in 1904 for Calcutta, and was employed in Gourepore Jute Works. He volunteered for active service in September 1914.
Dundee Courier 12th June 1916
There is no record of this man on the Australian First World War Service Records. (Gary Thomson)
