More about John Robertson

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour, but is remembered on Dundee’s Harris Academy Honour Roll.

John Robertson   Captain   Royal Scots

HARRIS ACADEMY FORMER PUPIL KILLED.

CAPTAIN OF 4th ROYAL SCOTS.

Captain John Robertson, 4th Royal Scots (Q.E.R.), was killed in action at the Dardanelles on 28th June.  He was a son of the late Mr Alexander Robertson, of Holmiry, Glenisla, and was educated at Harris Academy.

Captain Robertson was a banker by profession, and was agent in the branch office of the National Bank of Scotland at Blenheim Place, Edinburgh.  He served his apprenticeship with Colonel Davidson, Kirriemuir, formerly commanding officer of the 2d V.B. Black Watch.  He went to Edinburgh in 1898.  Prior to that he had been a member of the 5th Battalion the Black Watch, and he was transferred to the “Queen’s.”  In 1910 he obtained his commission as second lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, next year he became first, lieutenant and in 1913, when he was promoted captain, he succeeded to the command of the well-known “Bankers’” Company.  Captain Robertson was a married man, and resided at 151 Bruntsfield Place Edinburgh.
