John Murray was born in Dundee in 1885 and was the brother of Mrs Ann Kennedy of 26 North George Street, Dundee. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve at the Customs House in Dundee. His Service Records do not seem to be in the National Archives. John Murray died as the result of an accident whilst he was serving in HMS Pekin, the shore base for minesweeping trawlers in Grimsby. He is buried in the Scartho Road Cemetery in Grimsby, Grave Reference 42 D 13.
