For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.

On this day, 29 May 1915: 2556 Pte. John Morrison, D Company, 4th Black Watch, died of wounds in France. Morrison was born in Dundee, and employed by Dundee Eastern Co-Operative Society at the time of his death, but his family lived in Brechin.
On 24 May his aunt recived notification that John had been badly wounded and his leg amputated. Sadly, he succumbed to his wounds and notification of his death appeared in ‘The Courier’ on 1 June.
John Morrison was 34 years old, and is buried in Le Treport Military Cemetery, Seine-Maritime, France, Plot 2, Row F, Grave 5.

BRECHIN TERRITORIAL HAS LEG AMPUTATED. Another young Brechin soldier has had to get his leg amputated. Private John Morrison, 4th Black Watch, was admitted to hospital suffering from wounds in his leg, arm, and back. On May 24 Mrs Tosh, his aunt, received intimation from the War Office that his right leg had had to be amputated.
Previous to the outbreak of war he was employed as a grocer’s salesman with Dundee Eastern Co-Operative Society, and he was one of the first to volunteer for the 4th Battalion. This is the fourth Brechin soldier who has had his leg amputated. The Courier, Friday, 28 May 1915, 6.

DUNDEE TERRITORIAL DIES FROM WOUNDS. Private John Morrison, 1 Seafield Road, Dundee, a member of the 4th Black Watch, has died in hospital. Deceased received a wound in the leg, and it was found necessary to have the limb amputated. Intimation was received yesterday by his aunt, who resides in Brechin, that he had succumbed to his injuries. Private Morrison belonged to Brechin, but when war broke out was employed with the Eastern Co-Operative Society, Dundee. The Courier, Tuesday, 1 June 1915, 6.
