More about John McGovern
In 1915, Glasgow born John McGovern gave his address as 42 Rose Lane, Dundee whilst serving in the SS Caldy, registered in London, but refused to sign his name in the ship’s Crew List. He left the Caldy in Port Said on 7 October 1915. At some point in the next 17 days he joined the SS Euripides, a liner commandeered by the Royal Australian Navy, as a Troopship (A14). John McGovern died at sea in the Athol Bight located in the approaches to Sydney Harbour. The report of his death states that he received a bullet wound to his right chest.
