John McCann was the son of Mr William and Mrs Mary McCann and was born in Dundee. In 1915 he served as a Trimmer onboard the Silvia and the Crossby. He was married to Mrs Elizabeth McCann (nee Brady)of 12 James Street, Dundee. The Euphorbia was sunk with all hands on 1 December 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-75 approximately 14 nautical miles South East of the Royal Sovereign light vessel. She was en route from Bassein, part of present day Mumbai, to London with a cargo of rice. John McCann is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
