More about John McCabe

John McCabe   D.C.M.  482   Black Watch

ANOTHER DUNDEE HERO

AWARDED D.C.M. FOR SAVING LIVES OF WOUNDED SOLDIERS.

Another Dundonian has brought honour to his native city.  Lance-Corporal John M’Cabe, 1st Black Watch, who was some time ago awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, “for conspicuous bravery when he brought in four wounded men who were exposed to enemy fire, and who would otherwise have been killed.”

Lance-Corporal M’Cabe served in India with the 1st Black Watch for about ten years previous to the outbreak of war, and on the commencement of hostilities his battalion was despatched to France.  The hero participated in the fighting at Mons, and has been in practically all the big engagements since.

His parents reside at 157 1/2 Brook St, while his wife lives at 2 Dudhope Crescent Rd, Dundee.
