James was embodied into service on 5 Aug 1914 and promoted to Acting L/Cpl on 2nd Jan 1915. On 13 Oct 1915 he was ‘found to be medically unfit for war service and garrison duty abroad but fit for home service’.
On 19 Apr 1916 he was discharged as consequence of Termination of Engagement under Kings Regs
