John was the brother of Second Lieutenant James Balfour Dunn, 55th Sqaudron, R.A.F. who died 25.09.1918.
Private Dunn enlisted in the Scottish Horse, and went east with his regiment to Gallipoli. After that campaign he was transferred to the 10th Cameron Highlanders, with whom he went to Salonica. He held the 1915 Star,the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. John was one of two sons of Major John Dunn, Royal Army Medical Corps, who retired “a few years ago” from the position of head of the Science Department at Morgan Academy.
