More about John Campbell Dewar
John enlisted as a Piper with the Black Watch Reg No 714 and was renumbered 200018 as Corporal and renumbered again 750218 in France 24.02.1915. It is believed that he was wounded in the shoulder during the fighting at Festubert in May 1915. John was appointed Pipe-Major for the 4th/5th Battalion. He returned from the war and served in the Territorial Army until he retired in the 1930’s.
John began his working life in 1900 as an apprentice Blacksmith at the Wallace Foundry (Urquhart Lindsay & Robertson Orchar Ltd) he worked there for 36 years and later was employed by the Cleansing Department. John finally retired 14.04.1949 before dying 04.04.1954.
