James would go on to serve in WW2 with the Canadian Active Service Force and served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, 1st Motor Ambulance Convoy, No 57892.
His son Robert also served in WW2 as an Able Seaman in the Canadian Navy, No V/599. He was killed in action when the ship he was serving on H.M.C.S. Valleyfield (K 329) a River class frigate was torpedoed by German Submarine U-548 on 7th May 1944, sinking in only four minutes.
