More about James Rafferty
James Rafferty 2130 Black Watch
Old Campaigner Dangerously Wounded.
Private J. Rafferty, whose home is at 10 Johnston’s Lane, Dundee, has been severely wounded in the legs, and his injuries give cause for anxiety. Mrs Rafferty was made aware of the misfortune that had befallen her husband by the receipt of a wire from the Record Office at Perth. The telegram read :―”Regret to inform you War Office reports No 2130 Private J. Rafferty, 4th Black Watch, admitted 11th inst. to General Hospital, Boulogne, with gunshot wounds in both legs―dangerous.”
Private Rafferty is thirty-five years of age, and is the father of five children. He is an old campaigner, having gone through the South African campaign with the 42d without receiving a scratch. When war broke out in August he joined the 4th Battalion.
Rafferty possesses both the King’s and Queen’s Medals for South Africa. He was employed as a millworker with Gilroy, Sons, & Co., Ltd.
