James was struck off strength from 18th Bn 28.09.1918, for a commission as Second Lieutenant with the Royal Engineers, Tunnelling Officers Cadet Course. According to his service record, James elected to waive his right to return to Canada and remained in the UK following his demobilisation on 4 December 1918.
