James Fraser born 25 Sept 1877 to David Fraser and Isabella Ferguson at Flemings Land, Pitalpin Street, Lochee. Around 1890 the growing family moved to 4 Isla Street,Dundee.
James worked in a jute-spinning mill before being apprenticed to Rough & Fraser, bakers, where he served his time. In 1904 he went off to Cape Colony serving there as a Police Constable in Port Elizabeth until 1908, when he returned to marry Maggie Dobson. He worked for a time as a conductor on the trams before returning to baking.
Jim volunteered for the army despite being nearly 40 and having the young family as shown and served in France with the Royal Garrison Artillery on “the Big Guns” which resulted in some deafness in later life.
Post war James returned to baking until retirement. He lived until 26th July 1956.
James was the brother of L/Sgt William May Fraser 116095, 47th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, who died of wounds 07.03.1917.
