Thomas Golden was serving as a Private in the 1st/4th Royal Scots Fusiliers when he died at sea. His home address was 14 Wolseley Street, Dundee. HM Transport Arcadian was a former liner which was serving as a Troopship in the Eastern Mediterranean and was on passage from Salonika in Greece to Alexandria in Egypt. She was struck by a single torpedo fired by the German submarine UC-74 off the Greek island of Milos. The Arcadian sank within six minutes taking 279 people to their death but over a 1000 people were saved.
