More about Gerardo Soave

DUNDEE ITALIAN DIES OF WOUNDS. Intimation has been received by Mr Paolo Soave, 24 Albert Street, Dundee, of the death from wounds of his son, Gerardo Soave, Italian Field Artillery.
Deceased went to Italy to join the forces about two years ago, and was wounded on the 10th June last.
Prior to answering his country’s call he was in business with his father. The Courier, Monday, 3 December 1917. (This according to one of Gerardo’s great nieces is incorrect, Paolo was Geraldo’s brother, not his father)

In 1901 Gerardo was residing in Manchester (1901 Census) It is not known when he moved to Dundee. His father died in 1904 when Gerardo was 16 or 17. Gerardo died of wounds in Turin. He is remembered on his home town’s Great War Memorial.

Additional information kindly supplied by Geraldo’s great niece, Julia Soave.
