More about George Reid
For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
George Reid 1779 Scottish Rifles
A DUNDEE VICTIM OF THE DARDANELLES.
Private George Reid, Scottish Rifles, son of Mr James Reid, Rutland Terrace, 35 Tait’s Lane, Dundee, is presumed to have been killed in action. Private Reid, whose battalion was engaged in the Dardanelles expedition, was posted as missing in June of last year. No word has since been received of him, and Mr Reid has been officially informed that the Army Council have been regretfully constrained to conclude that his son is dead.
Deceased, who was a native of Dundee, was perhaps better known in Glasgow, where he was employed as a clerk with the Clyde Navigation Trust. He was a very fine violinist, and had played at many concerts in the West, while he also was a very successful teacher. Deceased was 34 years of age. Mr Reid has a son, Sergeant James Reid, in the Army Pay Corps.
