More about George Peters Melville
George was initially a Pte, M2/007456, Army Service Corps and was them commissioned 16.09.1915, initially as 2nd Lieutenant and then Lieutenant with the Royal Engineers.
George’s father, David, who was born in Dundee (as were his parents), was a Jute Mill Manager who was sent to Calcutta, hence his two children were born there. David died in 1931 in Dundee. They must have been a wealthy family because David left over £28,000 in his Will which was a lot in 1931. George’s brother, James, was a Tea Planter in India – he died in Falkirk in 1973.
