George was wounded and gassed in June 1917, and on 22nd September he was killed at Dickebusch by an enemy shell while asleep in his dug-out. His Sergeant wrote:- “I can hardly yet realise that dear old George is gone. He was the life and sole of the Battery, and all the boys join with me in sending deepest sympathy to you in the loss of your noble son and my heroic friend.” For more information on George, visit George’s Service Record.
