More about David Taylor
David Taylor was the son of Mr James and Mrs Mary Taylor (nee Caird) and was born in Dundee. He was the husband of Mrs Grace Taylor of Blalowan House, Crieff. He was the First Mate of the SS Clan Alpine between October 1914 and April 1915 during passages between Glasgow and Calcutta via Liverpool. Clan Alpine was a 3,500 ton steam cargo ship completed in 1899 for the Clan Line and managed by Cayzer, Irvine & Co. She was sunk on 10 June 1917 by torpedo fired by the German submarine U-60 approximately 40 nautical miles North-East of Muckle Flugga, Shetland Isles. She was en route from the Tyne to the White Sea with an unknown cargo. David Taylor was one of eight crew members lost in the sinking. He is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
For reasons unknown David is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
