This man was residing in Dundee when he enlisted in the Army. David was the grandson of James Taylor, 20 Park St, Arbroath. He initially enlisted as a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery, and after having been six months in France he was invalided home. He was transferred to the South Staffords as a musketry instructor, and later to the 2nd Essex. Sixteen days after his return to France L/Cpl Swinton, when running to take a post, was killed by a sniper at Rue de Vinaigre, Roselles.

LANCE-CORPORAL DAVID SWINTON.
Intimation has been received by his aunt, who lives at 20 Park Street, of the death of Lance-Corporal David T. Swinton, Essex Regiment, who was killed in action on 19th April. Lance-Corporal Swinton, who was 19½ years of age, was employed at the railway as an engine-cleaner. He enlisted in August 1915, and after being eight months in France he was invalided home, and had returned to France five weeks before he met his death.
