DUNDEE AUSTRALIAN WINS MILITARY CROSS.
Sergeant-Major David Smith, a Dundee man, has received the Military Cross for distinguished service on the battlefield. Sergeant-Major Smith is a son-in-law of Mr and Mrs Esplin, 22 Catherine Street, Dundee, with whom is wife and little boy have resided since he left the city for Australia over seven years ago. Sergeant-Major Smith was wounded in both arms at Gallipoli shortly before the evacuation, and was taken to a military hospital at Malta for treatment. He was transferred to England to receive medical advice regarding his wounds, which have now thoroughly healed, and he is at present in Dundee on leave before he rejoins his regiment.
Prior to leaving Dundee for Australia he was employed as a vanman by James Couttie & Sons, Morgan Works, Dundee.
