More about David Paterson Macrae
David P Macrae was the son of Mr John and Mrs Margaret McRae of Dundee and was married to Mrs Margaret Macrae of 9 Gorden Road, Newport, Monmouth. David served his apprenticeship with Messrs Carmichael, Ward Foundry, Dundee. In July 1915 he served as the Chief Engineer of the Bristol registered coastal vessel Ino. In 1917, the London registered SS Ribston was en route from Melilla to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore. She was sunk by a single torpedo fired by the German submarine U-45, 80 miles west of the Fastnet Light and with the loss of 25 crewmen. David Macrae is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
