More about David Langlands
David initially enlisted with 2nd/1st Highland Cyclist Company in Dundee before being transferred to the Army Cyclist Corps and attached to the 64th (2nd Highland) Division. He was then gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 30 January 1918, in 4th battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He landed at Boulogne 4 May 1918 and assigned to 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders. David was wounded in action during fighting at Hinges near Bethune by a gun shot wound to the right leg on 23 June 1918. He was sent back to the UK for treatment and did not return to the front following this injury. David resigned his commission 29.03.1921.
On being discharged from the Gordon Highlanders, David had various employment as an insurance supervisor and a travelling salesman before moving to Eastbourne in Sussex. He married Gladys Holmes and had two sons. Bryan became a Professor of Geography at Kampala University, Uganda. He later fled from Idi Amin and died in the Birmingham air crash on the M5 in 1989. And Ian who was a Canadian Fisheries Executive in Halifax, Nova Scotia. David later lost touch with his family but I believe he died in London.
