David Goodall Mudie, born in Tayport, was the son of Mr David Goodall Mudie and Mrs Anne Mudie (nee Shepherd) of 9 Langlea Place, Broughty Ferry. He was the husband of Mrs Margaret Mudie (nee Mitchell) of 21 North Ramsay Street, Monifieth. He served as the Second Engineer of the SS Jacona between 1914 and when she was sunk. The ship was owned by Cairns, Noble & Company Dundee, and was a steam cargo ship completed in 1889 by Laing for Rankin Gilmour as the Saint Marnock. She sank on 12 August 1915 after striking a mine approximately 25 nautical miles North West of Troup Head in Scotland. Three other local men including R W Fleming, E S Hendry and J M Neave died in the sinking but Dundee born Fireman/Trimmer D Peebles survived.
