David was the brother of Pte Duncan Brown, 410695, 38th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, who was killed in action, 18.11.1916.
Both Duncan and David were raised in Dundee Orphan Institute (Carolina House) it is not known if their other siblings were also raised there, but both men have entries in the Orphanage Roll of Honour available on the Friends of Dundee City Archives website.
