More about David Adair Peebles
David originally enlisted with the Fife & Forfar Yeomanry in Dundee 04.09.1914 with the Reg No 2040. Like his two cousins John Adair Peebles, and Robert Adair Peebles he initially fought at Gallipoli but was evacuated to Malta on December 5th 1915, suffering from Trench Foot. He was then returned to the U.K. on the hospital ship “Hunslet” and was sent to a hospital in Glasgow to recuperate.
He was then recommended for a commission in the summer of 1916. He then served with the 14th Battalion Black Watch in Egypt, Palestine and France and served as an officer in the Divisional Trench Mortar Battery.
Whilst in France his kidney was ruptured by a stray elbow during a game of “British Bulldogs” and was again invalided back to the U.K. June 18th, 1918. He was on a training course in England when the Armistice was signed.
