More about Daniel McMillan
Daniel McMillan was born in Edinburgh and was the son of Mr Hugh and Mrs Agnes McMillan. He was married to Mrs Euphemia McMillan (nee Ewan) of 45 Cotton Road, Dundee. The SS Roanoke was a steam cargo ship completed in 1907 for the Chesapeake & Ohio Steamship Company Ltd. She was damaged on 11 February 1917 by torpedo fired by the German submarine UC-29 approximately 3.5 nautical miles South East of Aberdeen but she was towed to safety and repaired. Daniel McMillan was the only fatality in this attack and is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial. The Roanoke was sunk later that year but without any casualties.
