More about Charles Meek
Charles Meek was the son of Mr Thomas Meek of Glasgow and Canada and is believed to have been a Mars boy. On November 14th, 1914, the British cargo vessel HECTOR, built in 1898 by Irvine’s Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. Ltd. and owned at the time of her loss by Hutchinson J. & P., left Swansea for San Sebastian with a cargo of coal, and went missing. On 15 November 1914 a strong gale was blowing in this area with a rather low pressure zone centred on Ireland which may have caused the cargo to shift and capsize the ship. All thirteen crew were lost.
