More about Bruce McLanders
Bruce is believed to be the brother of Pte Thomas McLanders, 24955, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Bruce McLanders was the son of Mr Thomas and Mrs Ann Paton McLanders of 25 Langlands Street, Dundee and he was born at Mains, Forfar. He does not appear in the 1915 Crew lists. In December 1917, the SS Coila, registered in Liverpool was on passage from Glasgow to Livorno, Italy with a cargo of coal and was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-64. The wreck lies three miles South East of Canet Point, Valencia, Spain. Bruce McLanders died in the sinking along with two other crewmen and all three are commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
