More about Allan Winton

Allan Winton was the son of Mr David Jarvis Winton and Mrs Agnes Winton (nee Semple) of 3 Arklay Street, Dundee. The Cheviot Range was a 3,700 ton steam cargo ship completed in 1914. She was sunk on 21 February 1918 by gunfire and torpedo fired by the German submarine U-102 approximately 25 miles South of the Lizard in Cornwall and 27 people died in the sinking. She was en route from Tuticorin, today Thoothukundi, on the Bay of Bengal to the UK with an unknown cargo. Allan Winton is named on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.

For reasons unknown Allan is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour, he has no known grave but is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial.
