More about Alexander Miller
Alex enlisted in Royal Army Medical Corps in 1914 as a boy soldier. He served with the 1/3 Field Ambulance RAMC at the Western Front and was taken POW on 21st March 1918 at Bapaume during the German pincer movement of the Second Battle of the Somme early that morning. He was initially held at Limburg then moved to Parchaim POW camps. He eventually returned to the family home after being released only to discover his mother had died in February 1918. As there was very little communication, the family were only notified that he was MIA and they presumed him dead. His father and sisters must have had some very difficult times that year. He went on to train as one of Dundeeās first fully licenced chiropodists and practiced until his retiral. During WW2 he was heavily involved with the Hawkhill First Aid Post.
Alex died 20.12.1978 aged 81.
