More about Alexander Melville
Alexander initially served with the 4th Battalion, Black Watch prior to 1914. At the outbreak of war he volunteered for the 6th Battalion, Black Watch. He served from 09.08.1914 – 04.07.1915 with the 2/6th Black Watch when it is claimed that he suffered from epilepsy, brought on when he hit his head falling from a cart when the cart horse was frightened by a train, and was discharged from the army.
He re-enlisted in the 3rd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders in 1915 and was wounded 3 times while serving, once in 1916 and twice in 1917. His brother Thomas also served during the Great War and also returned safely.
