Mr Alexander Clark was married with one child and his home address was 14 Muirfield Crescent, Dundee. He was the Assistant Manager of the Anjas Jute Works, Calcutta, part of the Victoria Company, Calcutta and on his way out to India. His brother-in-law was a Mr Thomas Bains. The SS Persia was a P&O Liner on passage from Britain to India when she was torpedoed without warning by the German submarine U-38 at midday on 30 December 1915, south of the island of Crete. Only four of the eight lifeboats could be lowered because of the immediate list and the survivors were not rescued until the following evening. Over 340 drowned out of over 500 passengers and crew onboard.
