Alex initially attested in the 45th Battalion Canadian Infantry but was discharged from the battalion 27.03.1915 due to drunkenness. He then re enlisted with the 61st Battalion by changing is date of birth. He would go on to serve with the Royal Canadian Air Force in WW2.
