Arthur was the brother of Pte Charles Stark, S/23949, 4th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed in action, 20/07/1918.

Distinguished Conduct Medal
636163 Bombr. A. Stark. Royal Field Artillery (Dundee).
This N.C.O. was in charge of a gun in action in the open under very heavy artillery fire. All the rest of the detachment had become casualties. As soon as he had placed the wounded under cover, as far as possible, and dressed their wounds, he returned to his gun, which he continued to serve, single-handed, for three hours, until the enemy infantry had worked their way round to the rear of the battery. His behaviour was most gallant and he displayed marked devotion to duty.
